ETHICAL ADOPTIONS

WHAT IS AN ETHICAL ADOPTION?

RELATIVE ADOPTION

Adopting the child of your spouse or a member of your family is usually handled through a private attorney.

DOMESTIC ADOPTION

Usually private, domestic adoptions involve the adoption of infants and younger children. You may go through a private agency or an adoption attorney.

INTERNATIONAL ADOPTION

International adoptions are handled by agencies with accreditation by the Hague Convention. Most international adoptions are of toddlers or older children. Every country has its own unique requirements for eligibility to adopt, and a private agency can best advise you how to proceed.

FOSTER CARE ADOPTION

There are so many children right here who need you! You may choose to foster-to-adopt or adopt directly by calling the Department of Family and Children's Services in Georgia (DFCS) or a list of private agencies who process adoptions for DFCS.

ABOUT GALAA

The Georgia Association of Licensed Adoption Agencies promotes ethical adoption practices, provides a forum for the education of its members and advocates for the best adoption policies in Georgia. We are a resource in the community to advance awareness and understanding of adoption. This includes advocacy for quality services, policies and adoption laws and practices at the state, local and federal levels.

GALAA would like to thank our sponsors for the 2025 Annual Conference.  With the help of our sponsors GALAA was able to provide valuable training to assist those serving in the field with education and experiential activities to further the mission of providing quality, ethical adoption services in the state of Georgia.  Please click below for more information about these organizations.
