Who We Are

The Georgia Association of Licensed Adoption Agencies (GALAA) is a consortium of licensed child placing agencies and other professional practitioners involved in providing adoption related services who are organized for the following purposes:

bullet

To promote quality and ethical adoption practices among providers of adoption services;

bullet

To provide a forum for training, innovation, and the sharing of information on trends and important concerns to adoption practitioners;

bullet

To serve as a resource in the community to advance awareness and understanding of adoption; and

bullet

To advocate for quality services, policies and adoption laws and practices at the state, local and federal level.

Our Values

The following statements reflect the values and ideals which are affirmed by each GALAA member.

  1. To provide services and make decisions which have the best interest of children in mind.

  2. Adhere to the highest ethical standards of conduct and practices.

  3. Accept and honor the diversity and uniqueness of the children with whom we work.

  4. Strive for excellence in the provision of adoption services.

  5. Treat all consumers equally without coercion and with dignity and respect, valuing birthparents and adoptive parents.

  6. Maintain compliance with all applicable state laws and licensing requirements.

Our Major Activities

GALAA is involved in many activities to promote adoption and forward quality, ethical adoption practice. Below is a list of some of these activities:

Sponsoring a two day adoption conference  for adoption professionals held at the end of February each year with a renown expert in adoption as the feature presenter.

February 21st and 22nd - 2008 GALAA Annual Adoption Conference for Professionals. Emerald Point Resort at Lake Lanier.

Sponsoring a conference for adoptive parents with a renown expert in adoption as the feature presenter.

February 23rd - 2008 GALAA Annual Adoption Conference for Adoptive and Foster Parents. St. Thomas More Church, East Ponce De Leon Avenue and Trinity Street in Decatur.

Promoting adoption.

Co-sponsoring a community wide adoption fair with an emphasis on the adoption of children with special needs.

Providing state legislative alerts to members and lobbying activities to promote good adoption practices.

bullet

Providing quarterly training opportunities for adoption professionals.

bullet

Advocating for adoption issues at the local, state, and community levels.
